Thanks for your generosity and your continued support!
In this phase we have informal conversations with the local community. The goal is to understand the needs, what the local community can do on her own and whether we can carry the project in a way that allow us to meet our accountability and transparency requirements. Depending on the level of engagement, this phase can take several months to complete.
Our representatives visit the field, carry more formal talks with the local community and gather more detailed information about the needs of the local community. This usually results to the establishment of the local community formal wish list.
There can be several field visits to get to the local community wish list.
After the field visits a formal scoping of the project is carried out with different stakeholders including local community representatives, contractor and Mbai Bassa Community project evaluation team. Different scenarios and their total costs are evaluated. After some back & forth with the local community, we usually settle on a scope compatible with our anticipated financial means and responding to the most critical needs of the local community.
The project is submitted to our Board of directors (BOD) for a formal review and approval. Usually the BOD approves the projects with some conditions related to the scope, costs and approval of all concerned local authorities. The BOD can also send back the project to scoping if the conditions for approval of the project are not met.
A formal grant letter is sent to the local community. It describes the nature and scope of the work, prerequisite conditions if any. Generally the prerequisite conditions include the approval of all concerned local authorities and administrations, and the local community obligations.
In accordance with local regulations, the local community files the necessary paperwork with all concerned local authorities/administrations for the approval of the project. Depending on the location, this phase may take several weeks or a few months.
Once all the necessary approvals are obtained, the formal contract is signed with the contractors. The work starts as soon as the availability of the contractors and the weather permit. Usually it takes a few weeks to complete the work.
After the work is completed, the contractor delivers the project to the local community, which confirms to Mbai Bassa Community the completion and the reception of the work.
Our challenge for 2021/2025 is to promote education excellence and safe learning environment in underserved and rural communities of the Grand Sanaga region of Cameroon by renovating a dozen devastated schools and providing school supplies to students. A lot of schools in this area suffer of severe degradations due to lack of funds to perform the basic maintenance and natural disasters such as storms. Children study in an environment which is dangerous for their health.
For this challenge, we are teaming up with our sister organization Ndap I Maten of Arizona and local communities in Cameroon.
If we meet our goal, it is more than 1000 students who will be able to study in a safer and cleaner learning environment.
