Mbai Bassa Community is a California 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity corporation (EIN: 85-1787874). It was founded in May 2020 by members of the Grand Sanaga region of Cameroon diaspora in the West Coast of the USA and their friends. The ultimate goal is to support a thriving and more equitable Grand Sanaga region of Cameroon through sustainable actions in education, basic clean water and preventive healthcare infrastructures and micro-economic projects.
Mbai Bassa Community welcomes all people who share and are committed to advancing its vision and mission, regardless of their place of origin or residence.
We the founders of Mbai Bassa Community are driven by the following shared beliefs:
The Grand Sanaga region of Cameroon includes the Sanaga-Maritime, Nyong et Nkelle and Nkam divisions. It is home to Bassa, Bati and Mpoo Bantu ethnic groups. They are believed to have originated from the Nile Valley in the Ancient Egypt. After successive migrations they settled in the Atlantic coast of Central and West Africa. In Cameroon the total population is about 250000 individuals.
Bassa Bati Mpoo people have a rich culture and traditions. “Ngog Lituba”, or “Pierced Stone”, is considered the cradle of Bassa Mpoo Bati people of Cameroon. The legend is that the Bassa took refuge inside the rock to escape extermination. Therefore, they owe their survival to Ngog-Lituba. That is why Bassa, Bati and Mpoo people from Cameroon refer to themselves as Mbog Liaa or People from the Pierced Stone.
Members of our Bisai clubs are the backbone of our organization. They are committed to making our vision becomes a reality. They commit to a minimum level of financial contributions per year and participate to various activities to advance our causes on an ongoing basis.
Let’s break the cycle of poverty and inequality through education, healthy communities and financial self-reliance.
